Golden Retrievers were developed in Scotland in the mid-19th century by Lord Tweedmouth who wanted the perfect hunting companion. He crossed flat-coated retrievers with water spaniels to create a dog with excellent retrieving skills, intelligence, and a gentle disposition. The breed quickly gained popularity worldwide.
